EMERGENCY & CRITICAL VET CARE

We Have a Fully Staffed Veterinary Emergency Hospital

We have the largest team of veterinary emergency doctors and nurses in South Florida, and our vet emergency hospital is minutes away from Fort Lauderdale. Our emergency doctors are internship trained and have years of experience in emergency medicine. Every person on our ER team is RECOVER certified (advanced life support). Emergency veterinarians provide emergency and urgent care, acting as the first responders of our hospital. They provide rapid assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and definitive treatment of both common and uncommon medical and surgical problems of sudden onset including:

    • Traumatic injuries
    • Cardiopulmonary diseases/labored breathing
    • Poisonings
    • Seizures
    • Fever
    • Vomiting and diarrhea
    • Bloat (GDV)
    • Urinary emergencies
    • Anemia
    • Reproductive emergencies

Critical Care is the continuation of emergency care over time and is synonymous with intensive care. Critical care includes a variety of medical and supportive treatments and techniques including:

    • Pain management
    • Fluid therapy
    • Blood transfusion
    • Nutritional support
    • Post-operative care
    • Wound care
    • Cardiac and respiratory support
    • Intensive monitoring and nursing care

AVCC is equipped with one of only a few mechanical ventilators in South Florida.  This advanced technology allows AVCC’s doctors and nurses to care for severe, complex respiratory cases that would not survive without interventional support.  Read more about our mechanical ventilator and Riley the bulldog’s incredible story here!

RECOVER Initiative at AVCC

Nearly a dozen pets come through our doors each month needing emergency CPR.  Seconds matter when it comes to life and death in these situations.  So, AVCC is proud to be part of the RECOVER Initiative, the first true evidence-based veterinary cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines. 100% of our veterinary team is either enrolled or certified, resulting in better outcomes and improved health for our pet patients in emergencies.  Learn more at our blog here!
