Advanced Veterinary Care Center’s 24-Hour Emergency Team Saves “Astro”
“I was on my way to work one day, when I noticed he was acting strange,” recalls Kristine Navarro of her 4-month-old puppy Astro. “Usually, he would be running around or playing. But, he did not want to eat or potty or anything,” she adds. Kristine headed out to a local ER, when Astro began to have a seizure in the car. “When I arrived, they had to revive him and work on him. They kept him there until he was stabilized, but they did not have the capability to help him anymore. So, they transferred him to Advanced Veterinary Care Center.”
With the largest team of veterinary emergency doctors and nurses in South Florida, the staff at Advance Veterinary Care Center got right to work on Astro. “He was so severe,” recalls Kristine. “I explained the situation to them as I was driving. When I got there, they took him right back,” she added.
Astro was diagnosed with hookworm anemia. He was unstable and very weak. The doctors and nurses “were checking on him around the clock,” adds Kristine. AVCC’s emergency team is supported 24/7 by our team of board-certified veterinary specialists. This collaborative approach to veterinary care, ensures the best possible outcome for our patients. “The staff and doctors are very knowledgeable and they know what they are doing,” emphasizes Kristine.
Astro’s continued care included imaging and bloodwork which revealed poor heart muscle contractions, anemia, hookworms, intestinal bacterial infection, abnormally low cholesterol, elevated potassium, and more. He was hospitalized for nearly a month. “I would go visit him every day and I would call every few hours for updates. I think their policy about visiting pets is awesome! You could tell they really care about the animals and it’s not about the money there. They genuinely care and they want pets to get better. Everyone loved Astro there.”
Today Astro is fully recovered and enjoying all of his favorite things like running around and playing with his two dog brothers. “It’s like nothing ever happened to him,” says Kristina. “I’m happy AVCC was able to help him and that he was able to survive this.”
