Surgical Expertise
Our surgical team provides a complete array of surgical services in a modern state-of-the-art facility, including minimally invasive surgery. Surgical diseases may be classified as soft tissue, orthopedic, or neurosurgical in nature.
- Soft tissue surgery – These procedures involve “soft” tissues of the skin and external body, ears, nose, and throat, heart and lungs, and the abdominal organs (liver, spleen, kidney, etc.). Commonly performed soft tissue surgeries include exploratory surgeries, tumor removals, removal of gastrointestinal foreign bodies, and removal of urinary bladder stones. Uncommon procedures include repair of various congenital defects and skin grafting. Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery, is also included in this category.
- Orthopedic surgery – These procedures involve surgery of the musculoskeletal system and frequently include repair of broken or bones (fractures), dislocations (luxation or subluxation), and ruptured or torn ligaments (rupture of the cruciate ligament in the knee is most common in dogs).
- Neurosurgery – The most common neurosurgical procedures include herniated (“slipped”) disc removal and spinal fracture repair.
Advanced Veterinary Care Center offers minimally invasive surgery! Arthroscopy, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy have become the gold standard of care for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases. These techniques provide the surgeon with a magnified and illuminated view that can improve our ability to detect subtle abnormalities in our patients. These minimally invasive techniques have been shown to significantly reduce: post-operative pain, infections, length of hospitalization and stress in veterinary patients.
We work with pet parents and primary care veterinarians to ensure that pain management, physical therapy, nutrition, medications, and other aspects of post-operative patient care are managed as a team, ensuring the best possible outcome once pets are ready to leave the hospital.
