AVCC’s 24-Hour Team of Expert Veterinarians Help a Miniature Pinscher Puppy in Gastrointestinal Distress

July 25, 2024

“She was drooling and her eyes were glazed over,” recalls Chris Tamber of his 14-month-old dog Meesha. Just a few days before, the sweet Miniature Pinscher puppy was swimming and playing in an area frequented by other dogs. “She loves the water and was having a blast,” says Chris. But later that day, “she had massive diarrhea,” adds Chris, who carefully watched Meesha through the night. “She got up really early at around 6 a.m. and as soon as I opened the door, she threw up.”

After Meesha refused to eat, Chris took her to a local veterinarian. Once home, however, her symptoms continued to worsen. Meesha was groaning and agitated. “She was staring up at the walls. She would go to get water, but not drink,” he adds.

Chris Takes Meesha to AVCC

That’s when Chris took Meesha to Advanced Veterinary Care Center’s 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital in Davie, Florida. “They are top notch,” says Chris about AVCC. “I told them what had happened and they immediately admitted her. They made sure they had every bit of info they needed. The doctors and nurses are really on point. They were absolutely fantastic!”

AVCC’s Co-Medical Director and emergency veterinarian, Dr. Jon Rappaport cared for Meesha, supported 24/7 by all of AVCC’s emergency doctors, nurses and board-certified veterinary specialists. This unique team approach is designed to give patients the best possible outcome. “They have a much larger staff than other hospitals,” adds Chris.

Meesha’s treatment plan included overnight hospitalization so she could receive iv fluid therapy, diagnostics, medication and supportive care. “Dr. Rappaport really explained what he thought was going on,” says Chris. “He is a very nice guy. He sat there and made sure I understood the path we would take.”

Chris was very happy with the level of communication throughout the entire process. “Dr. Rappaport called to follow up with me. He was very positive that Meesha was turning a corner. He called that evening and told me she ate and hydrated. I even got a call back in the morning to let me know she was eating and doing better and that she was lively and no longer lethargic.”

Meesha at Home

Today, Meesha is doing great and she is back to enjoying all of her favorite things. “She loves to go to the park and take walks and chase iguanas (on leash of course!).” According to Chris, Meesha is loving and friendly, which is exactly how he describes the staff at Advanced Veterinary Care Center. They are “more polite and understanding than other hospitals,” he says. “The doctors, nurses and staff are compassionate people that went above and beyond. They try to put you at ease in tough situations and make you feel that you are getting all the information available.”

Most importantly, Chris was grateful he chose Advanced Veterinary Care Center for the level of expertise that helped Meesha get healthy fast! He summed up his experience with a baseball analogy. “It just seemed like the major leagues compared to the minor leagues!”
