Veterinary Specialists at Advanced Veterinary Care Center Work Together to Help Shaeleigh
“I just had this gut feeling,” recalls Corinne Hamre of her dog Shaeleigh. “She never gets sick, but in the middle of the night there was vomit everywhere and yellow bile. I knew it was her gallbladder,” she adds. Having a family of Shetland sheepdogs, Corinne previously experienced gallbladder issues with her other dog Addison.
Corinne brought Shaeleigh to Advanced Veterinary Care Center, where Addison was a previous patient. An ultrasound revealed changes in the gallbladder wall that were consistent with cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder).
“Shaeleigh wasn’t getting up. She wasn’t eating and she only wanted to sleep,” recalls Corinne of her usually bubbly and happy girl. “She was feeling so sick and was losing weight fast,” she adds. So, Shaeleigh underwent surgery at Advanced Veterinary Care Center to remove her gallbladder. Biopsies revealed an atypical mucocele, a condition where a jelly-like mucus accumulates within the gallbladder. This can lead to inflammation, bile backup, rupture and can also become a life-threatening event.
Shaeleigh’s expert care at AVCC was a collaboration between multiple board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine and intensive care. “The surgery went well and the medical care was great,” says Corinne. “The nursing care in the ICU was absolutely amazing!”
Today, Shaeleigh is back to doing all the things she loves. “We have been sheepherding twice. She loves to play outside and she is happy as can be,” adds Corinne. “It was lifesaving surgery and AVCC is top notch. I really would not go anywhere else.”
