24-Hour Emergency Team and Board-Certified Veterinary Specialists Work Together to Save Golden Retriever
“They totally saved my dog’s life 100%,” recalls Tammy Robinson of her experience with the 24-hour emergency and specialty team at Advanced Veterinary Care Center (AVCC). “Doctors and nurses rushed out and they saw her gums were pale, as she was losing blood. They rushed her in and she crashed on the table. The whole team was working on my dog.”
Ms. Robinson’s 10-year-old Golden Retriever, Puppers, had a ruptured tumor on her spleen, resulting in severe internal bleeding. Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon, Dr. Shiara Arulpragasam operated on Puppers to remove her spleen and stop the bleeding. “She was amazing,” recalls Ms. Robinson, who chose Advanced Veterinary Care Center over other emergency hospitals closer to her home because of her prior experiences at AVCC and other emergency facilities in our community.
With a full staff of experienced doctors and nurses, a state-of-the-art facility and 24/7 support from a dedicated team of board-certified veterinary specialists, Advanced Veterinary Care Center was Ms. Robinson’s preferred veterinary emergency hospital. “I went…to Advanced,” she adds, “because I knew Puppers would get better care there, even though it was further for me.”
Once Puppers made it through the emergency surgery, the concern was whether the tumor was cancerous. Ms. Robinson had been down this road before with other dogs. “My first dog, I lost him to this. It had already spread to all his organs and it was too late. Another one had trouble breathing and by then it was also too late. They call this the silent killer of dogs.”
So, when Puppers test results came back that her tumor was non-cancerous, Ms. Robinson was overcome with emotion. “I asked Dr. A. what’s next? She told me Puppers goes home and lives her best life and I started to cry!”
Puppers at Home Today
Puppers is feeling great at this time and Ms. Robinson is so grateful for the care she received! “It’s like it never happened,” she says. “She is 100% back to herself. She loves to swim in the pool and play ball. I have been to a lot of veterinary hospitals, and I tell you that Advanced Veterinary Care Center always has a doctor on staff and I have never been turned away. A lot of other hospitals don’t have surgeons on site and you are paying all this money for other staff members. Best of all, everyone at Advanced is so nice and you can tell that they are pet people. They really do care about the animals and the people who own them. They were perfection!”
